LKN Social District

The Lake Norman Social District, approved by the Town of Cornelius Board of 
Lake Norman Social District LogoCommissioners, is located in the historic Cornelius downtown area. Patrons of ABC permitted businesses in the social district may drink an alcoholic beverage in specially designed cups on the sidewalks and public areas within the social district. The district starts at Thigs and ends at Milling Way, including OTPH and the Cain Center for Performing Arts, as illustrated on this map.

As a customer or visitor to the Lake Norman Social District, please be aware of the following:
  • District hours: 12 PM - 10 PM, daily.
  • No outside alcohol is permitted within the district. All alcoholic beverages must be purchased from ABC licensed establishments located within or contiguous to the district (in specially labeled cups) and must be consumed within the District.
  • You may only possess and consume open containers of alcoholic beverages from 12 PM to 10 PM, Monday - Sunday.
  • You must dispose of any open container of an alcoholic beverage before exiting the social district, unless you are re-entering the establishment where you purchased the beverage.
  • The alcoholic beverage must be in a container that meets all of the following criteria:
  1. It clearly identifies the ABC permittee from which the alcoholic beverage was purchased.
  2. It clearly displays a logo or some other identification for the Lake Norman Social District.
  3. The container may not be glass.
  4. The container may not hold more than 16 fluid ounces.
  • Businesses located within or contiguous to the District that do not serve alcohol may permit people to enter with an alcoholic beverage in an approved container. Businesses not wishing to participate in the District should install signage indicating “Alcoholic Beverages Prohibited.”

Enforcement
The North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division (A.L.E.) and the Cornelius Police Department will enforce the requirements of the Lake Norman Social District. To report a potential violation, please call ALE at 877-ALE-AGENT or the Cornelius Police Department at 704-892-1363.
