James Hoyt Wilhelm Park is our newest park, opened on September 9, 2016. Built in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, this park encompasses six acres located behind Cornelius Elementary School, 21126 Catawba Avenue. The park provides a variety of recreational opportunities and site amenities.

About James Hoyt Wilhelm

Mr. Wilhelm began his baseball career playing for Cornelius High School, on the grounds where the new park now stands. He joined the US Army in World War II and was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Purple Heart. Even though he lived the remainder of his life with shrapnel embedded in his back, after the war he went on to play Major League Baseball for 21 years. He pitched his knuckle ball in the 1954 World Series, was selected as an All Star in three different decades, and was elected to the MLB Hall of Fame in 1985.  

Request for Bids

Interested Bidders:
The Town of Cornelius PARC Department is seeking qualified Contractors to bid on the Cornelius Elementary School Parking Area Paving Project. The proposed work consists of demolition, asphalt milling, asphalt resurfacing, new and replaced asphalt parking area base and surfacing, and other miscellaneous items as noted on the plans. The locations are the parking areas and bus lot in the rear of the buildings.

Attached are Construction Document Plans and Bid Forms.

Bids are due on March 19, 2018 2 p.m. at the location indicated on the Bid Form. Work is anticipated to begin after school is out for summer break which is approximately June 11, 2018.
