On Thursday, October 4, 2012, a resident in the Jetton Cove neighborhood of Cornelius entered her garage and discovered an unknown man standing there. She confronted the man and he left the garage. The resident contacted the Cornelius Police Department when she noticed her purse and cell phone were missing. While enroute to the call, the Cornelius Police received other calls from residents in the area to report car break-ins.

Cornelius Police Officers, with the assistance of the Mooresville Police Department K-9 unit and Officers from Huntersville and Davidson Police Departments, set up a perimeter in the area to search for the suspect. The search was unsuccessful.

As Officers were responding to the stolen vehicle call on Southport, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to a vehicle crash on Perkins Drive in North Charlotte.
