On May 24, 2018 the Cornelius Police Department promoted a Corporal in Field Operations.

Duke Cooper was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 2011 he graduated from Gaston Community College's Basic Law Enforcement Training and was hired by the Cornelius Police Department in 2012. He has served as a Field Training Officer and a Crime Scene Technician in addition to his responsibilities as a Patrol Officer. Earlier this month he also received his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards.
