Officer Hager completed his Basic Law Enforcement Training at Central Piedmont Community College while working as a full time fire fighter with Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte NC, where he is still employed today. He was hired by Cornelius in October of 1996 as a Part-Time Police Officer. During Officer Hager’s service with Cornelius he was often relied on to cover shifts when officers were out sick or when shifts where short during times of growth and attrition. Officer Hager provided many hours of service to the Town working the streets, numerous special events and off-duty security jobs. In September 2001, Officer Hager wasn’t busy enough with his career as a fire fighter and part-time police officer so he sought out a part-time position with our Communications Center, a role he still serves in today. In April 2003, Ty was awarded the Life Saving award after using a nearby kayak and improvised paddle (an old boat cabin door) to rescue a non-swimmer who was clinging to a Styrofoam cooler after his fishing boat had capsized. In 2012, Officer Hager requested a status change from part-time to inactive reserve so he could spend more time at home taking care of his wife.
It is a privilege and honor to recognize Officer Tyrone “Ty” Hager for his 20 plus years of Part-Time/Reserve service with the Town of Cornelius.
