[ARCHIVED] Laws & Ordinances for Fireworks in Cornelius

As we begin the 4th of July Holiday Weekend, the Cornelius Police Department would like to take a moment to remind our residents of North Carolina State Law and the Town of Cornelius Ordinance regarding Fireworks.

In general, sparklers, fountains and novelty fireworks items that do not explode or are not intended to spin or to leave the ground and fly through the air, are permitted for use in North Carolina. Anything that explodes or is projected into the air is illegal....leave that to the professionals!

Town of Cornelius Ordinance 130.03 states:

§ 130.03 FIREWORKS
It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge or cause to be or cause to be discharged any fireworks or pyrotechnics on the streets or in any public place within the corporate limits, provided that it shall be permissible for fireworks to be discharged at public exhibitions and public celebrations within the town after a permit therefore has been issued by the county and a copy provided to the Town Clerk.

Wishing everyone a safe and fun 4th of July!
