[ARCHIVED] Vehicle Pursuit of Suspect on 04/09/15

On Thursday, April 9, 2015 at approximately 6:46 pm, Officers with the Cornelius Police Department were involved in a vehicle pursuit with a stolen vehicle from Charlotte, NC.

A Cornelius Police Officer located the stolen vehicle near Meridian Street and Catawba Avenue and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit traveled west on Catawba Avenue and then south on I-77 to Huntersville and into the Huntersville Business Park. The suspect exited the business park via Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road and then turned north on Old Statesville Road heading back towards Cornelius. Cornelius Police deployed Stop Sticks in the area of Old Statesville Road and Catawba Avenue and the suspect vehicle came to a stop on Catawba Avenue near Jane Crump Way. The suspect, Gary Sanford Kennedy (B/M DOB 10-09-76) was taken into custody and later transported to the hospital for a pre-existing medical condition.

The suspect was admitted to the hospital and warrants were obtained for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Felony Speeding to Elude Arrest, Resist Obstruct Delay, Careless and Reckless Driving, Driving While License Revoked, and Possession of Cocaine.
