[ARCHIVED] WEATHER ALERT

Over the next several days we will have a weather event that will likely impact roads and power in some areas. Roads will become slick very fast. Road crews have already started putting out brine that will help melt the ice, but as temperatures drop and melt water refreezes the hazardous conditions on the roads will return.

Police and other first responders will likely receive a large number of accident calls during this period and there could be delays in responding to minor crashes as we work through this. Please stay off the roads once the ice begins to form unless it is absolutely necessary to go out. The more crashes we can prevent the more available we are to respond quickly to other needs.

Finally, Cornelius Police have contacted many of our seniors today to make sure they are prepared for the adverse weather, but we need residents to do the same and make sure elderly parents and neighbors are prepared for the very cold weather ahead. Please keep check on them and if emergency assistance is needed contact us right away.
