[ARCHIVED] Crime Alert - Phone Scam from Fake Law Enforcement Officers

CRIME ALERT – The Cornelius Police Department was contacted by a resident to report that a representative (suspect) from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) called and said they had a warrant for running a stop sign. The suspect further stated they would void the warrant if the resident sent them money. Cornelius Officers spoke with the MCSO and confirmed this is a scam and the suspect’s claims were fraudulent.

If you are contacted by anyone claiming to be affiliated with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office or any other Law Enforcement Agency as described above it is a scam. A warrant cannot be stricken by sending money. A warrant is a document issued by a judicial official in which an arrest is mandatory. Please alert the Cornelius Police Department at (704)892-7773 if you are contacted by anyone trying to use this scam.
