The Cornelius Police Department hosted a DWI checkpoint on Saturday, March 29 and seven arrests were made for driving while impaired. The checkpoint took place at the intersection of West Catawba Avenue and Westmoreland Road from 11:00pm on Saturday until 2:30am on Sunday.
In addition to the seven DWI arrests there were 24 citations issued which included eleven registration violations, three no operator's license, three warning tickets, one open container, one misdemeanor possession of marijuana, two possession of drug paraphernalia, and three other traffic related citations.
The Cornelius Police Department would like to thank the NC Governor's Highway Safety Program for the use of the Breath-Alcohol Testing (BAT)Mobile. Officers from the CMPD-DWI Task Force, Huntersville, Davidson, Pineville, and UNC Charlotte Police Departments assisted Cornelius Police Officers with the checkpoint.
