[ARCHIVED] Cornelius Police Investigate Hit & Run Accident

On Thursday, November 21, 2013 at approximately 9:22pm, a patrol officer with the Cornelius Police Department heard a large crash while on patrol near Catawba Avenue and Main Street. Officers located a single vehicle crash involving a black Chevrolet Silverado truck that struck a utility pole and tree on Meridian Street near Catawba Avenue. The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene before emergency personnel arrived. Power was lost in that area due to downed power lines but was later restored

During the investigation, Cornelius Police received a call from the Catawba County Sheriff's Officethe suspect, Kenneth Ryckeley, had been located and was being transported to Carolinas Medical Center Lincoln for a serious leg injury. The suspect was then transferred to Carolinas Medical Center Main hospital in Charlotte due to the extent of his injuries.

Cornelius Police obtained warrants on Kenneth Ryckeley for Reckless Driving and Felony Hit and Run. The suspect will be arrested after he is released from the hospital.
