What Does "Yield to Pedestrians" Even Mean?

HUC 2023 Graphic

Hey, motorists! What do you do when pedestrians are nearing a crosswalk? Yielding is the law, but stopping is great, too.

"Yield to Pedestrians" can come off as being vague, but it's pretty simple: if you see someone who might be getting ready to cross, slow down until you know what action they're going to take.

If a pedestrian has "entered" the crosswalk, meaning they've stepped into the roadway, stop until they've finished crossing. It's the neighborly thing to do.

With so many new signals going up around Town, like the Westmoreland HAWK signal, we'll be taking some time to go over how to interact with pedestrians and cyclists in different situations. Keep an eye out for these tips and tricks in the coming weeks.
