2023 Mayors' Fitness Challenge
Overview
Town vs Town, Mayor vs Mayor... come on Cornelius, let's go back-to-back!!
The three North Mecklenburg towns - Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville - return for a third year to host our Mayors' Fitness Challenge! Residents of each town will join together to become one team to win the title of Fittest Community. #OneTownOneTeam
The challenge will run six weeks, March 12-April 22. At the end of six weeks, the Town with the highest average active minutes per participant will be awarded the Fittest Community Trophy! Remember: it's never too late to join! We encourage everyone to invite your friends, family, co-workers, and anyone who lives in these towns to join in the fun and become more active.
The first two years, the goal was to complete as many activity/exercise minutes each day and report your minutes at the end of every week. We plan to do the same this year, except we have added a few other ways to help you and your team gain additional points! Over the six-week challenge, all three towns will work with local wellness providers to offer special programs for our Mayors’ Fitness Challenge participants. These programs will gain additional points on top of the normal activity points you can receive. More details on program opportunities will be announced as we go!
Point System
- 1 point for every minute of activity/exercise (max total of 1,000/person/week)
- 200 points for participation in each scheduled activity with a Town-sponsored, local wellness provider
- 200 points for participating in the mid-challenge event (April 2), and 500 points if Cornelius has the most participants at the event!
- 500 points for participating in the end-of-challenge event (April 22)
Cornelius residents register below. Residents of Davidson or Huntersville should register at their town's websites.
Program Details - REGISTRATION OPEN THROUGH APRIL 1!
- The challenge will last March 12 - April 22. Register before the April 1 deadline!
- Register individually or by family - either way, it's free!
- Each week, registered participants will receive a link to a survey via email. Use the link to report fitness activities for that week. If you don't receive the email, you either registered after the link was sent out, or it's possible that you may not have completed your registration. If you have any questions, please call us at 704-892-6031 x160.
- The link each week will close at noon each Tuesday. It will be emailed as well as posted on this website.
- NOTE: If you have missed the reporting deadline for any weeks in which you have participated, just use the next link that is open and you can record any minutes not previously reported.
- 1,000 minutes per individual is the maximum each family/team can report. This ensures that the competition is fair for all teams and that a group of "super athletes" cannot affect the calculations.
- At the end of the competition, the town with the highest average per participant will win!
Questions & Answers
How do I register myself and family for the Mayors' Fitness Challenge competition?
Residents should register through the town in which they live. Register individually or by family.
What types of activities can we engage in and track our minutes each week?
Each town will be providing their teams with a list of activities happening in their community, as well as a few other ways to help your self and your team gain additional points! Over the six-week challenge, all three towns will work with local wellness providers to offer special programs that anyone in the Mayors’ Fitness Challenge can participate. These activities will be worth bonus minutes.
In addition, families can walk, run, bike, or participate in their favorite games or sports together. During this competition, it is important for everyone to track all minutes spent doing any physical exercise to give their team the best chance of winning. Participant prizes will be awarded along the way!
How do I report the number of minutes I exercised?
At the end of each week, you will receive a link to a survey via email. Use the link to report fitness activities for that week. YOU MUST REPLY TO THIS EMAIL EVERY WEEK. Don't forget to enter your minutes and help Cornelius win the 2023 Mayors' Fitness Challenge!
Is there a minimum or maximum amount of minutes I can submit?
There is no minimum; everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate! 1,000 minutes per individual is the maximum each family/team can report. This ensures that the competition is fair for all teams and that a group of "super athletes" cannot affect the calculations.
How will you know I actually completed the minutes I am reporting?
Minutes spent exercising will be reported on an honor system. This is a friendly competition between municipalities and we encourage members of our community to be honest about their achievements.
