About the Town of Cornelius
Cornelius is a suburb of Charlotte, located in the northern part of Mecklenburg County, and is home to 25,000 residents. Cornelius is 15 square miles and borders 70 miles of shoreline on Lake Norman. The lake attracts a numbers of residents and visitors for recreation and leisure activities during the summer. Cornelius is also home to attractions such as Michael Waltrip Racing, Jon Hair Studio of Fine Art, and several boat marinas.

About the Cornelius Police Department
The Cornelius Police Department is an internationally accredited department through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Over the last six decades the Department has expanded from one Police officer during the 1940s to over 50 sworn personnel, 16 civilians and a core of volunteers today. The Department is composed of three divisions, which include: Field Operations, Administration, and Support Services.
The Administration Division is responsible for the overall operation of
the Department, fiscal management, surveillance, and planning and
analysis. The Field Operations Division includes the Uniform Patrol and
investigations Units, and is responsible for investigating and providing
a fundamental response to incidents of crime. Support Services provides
a variety of services that support the Field Operations Division that
help strengthen relationships and partnerships in the community. Support
Services is also responsible for providing the public with Animal
Control and dispatch services. The Department has a Community Policing
philosophy and continues expanding services to ensure that Cornelius is a
safe place to live, work, and play.
