Recreation & Arts Centers

Recreation Centers

Through a unique partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, when school academic or extra-curricular activities are not in session, the Cornelius Parks & Recreation Department is able to offer programs at Bailey Middle School as Bailey Road Recreation Center and JV Washam Elementary School as JV Washam Recreation Center. Some of these programs include youth sports leagues, drop-in adult gym time,  youth orchestra, fitness classes, special events and rentals to area sports organizations.

Arts Center

The Cornelius Arts Center is located within the Oak Street Mill, a building rich with history, home to a cotton mill in the late 1800s. The Cornelius Arts Center offers a variety of visual arts experiences, including classes, workshops, camps, open studio, gallery exhibits and more. Beginning September 1, 2021, operation of the Cornelius Arts Center will transfer from the Town of Cornelius to Cain Center for the Arts.

Do you see the need for a class that has not been offered before? Do you know someone who is a great teacher (or could be) and knows an unusual or interesting subject or craft? Do you have a special interest that you would like to share with others in a class? If you have answered YES to any of the above questions, please contact John Anderson, our Recreation Center Program Manager at 704-892-6031 ext 188 or Megan King, our Arts Program Manager at 704-892-6031 ext 166. Thanks!
