West Catawba Road Widening
|
In the Beginning |
In the End |

 |
 | For more than a decade, improvements to West Catawba Avenue have evolved from concept, to design, and finally to reality. West Catawba Avenue is one of the most critical transportation and economic corridors in Cornelius. The North Carolina Department of Transportation began construction on the West Catawba Avenue Improvement Project in late 2007. Phase I of the project included the section from Interstate 77 to Jetton Road. As illustrated in the image on the right above, the project entailed the burial of all utilities and widening the road to a four lane divided road with center median cuts.
Project Highlights
- Overhead Street Lights
- Synchronized Mast Arm Traffic Signals
