West Catawba Construction Update
May 2, 2008
Rea Construction completed the re-striping of West Catawba. The Town recognizes this has caused a few traffic issues and is investigating whether a small section of the left hand turn lane in front of First Citizens Bank (east bound on W. Catawba onto Torrence Chapel) can be re-opened. Also the signal light timing is affecting traffic. The new signal lights, which currently have bags over the signal heads, will be turned on and the existing lights removed during the night next week. The technology in the new signal lights should help traffic flow better.
Next week's work will center around traffic signals, installing storm pipes and grading work. Weather permitting, pipe crossings can begin the week of May 12th. Please keep in mind that most of the business driveways accessed from the east bound lane of W. Catawba have a drainage pipe crossing, which will require that driveway to be closed for some period of time to allow for the installation of the pipe. Typically the driveway will be shut down for one day and reopened the next day.
Friday May 2nd – Sunday May 4th:
NO WORK
Monday May 5th - Tuesday May 6th:
9pm- 6am: Rea will be removing the old signal lights and turning the new signal lights on. Police officers will assist in directing traffic during this process. This process will begin at the Jetton Road Intersection and move east toward I-77.
