Westmoreland Athletic Complex – Phase I (2 fields, playground, restrooms, etc.) is approximately 65% complete.

Robbins Park – Curb/gutter has been installed on the park side of West Catawba Avenue. Paving/wedging will start in the coming weeks.Homearama 2010 begins Sept. 24th – Oct. 10th.

Comprehensive Master Plan – Theme committee applications are available. For updates visit http://www.navigatecornelius.org.

Sign Committee – Recommendations will be presented to the Board of Commissioners on August 16th.

Fireboat – Cornelius-Lemley VFD will take delivery of the boat next week subject to Lake Norman sea trials.

Bailey Road/Hwy 115 intersection – Curb/gutter have been installed.Sidewalks will be installed next week.We are waiting on a timeline from Norfolk Southern on the pedestrian crossing signal.

Zion Street Waterline Improvements – Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities (CMU) anticipates extending existing 24 inch water line from Washam Potts to Catawba Ave along Zion Street to increase water flow capacity.This work is anticipated to start by mid August.

Bailey Road Resurfacing – NCDOT has started replacing drainage pipes so they can begin widening, reclaiming, and overlaying Bailey Road from the bottom of the hill at Oakhurst to Hwy. 115.

Diverging Diamond (DDI)/Exit 28 – NCDOT is continually working on the design/engineering of the DDI.Public meetings are anticipated to occur toward the end of 2010.

West Catawba Avenue – NCDOT mast arm bid opening is scheduled for August 10th.The contractor can begin work on August 24th and completion is scheduled for January 31, 2011.

Catawba Avenue/Hwy. 115 Intersection – AT&T anticipates finishing the utility burial by August 20th.

Knox Road Barricade – The property owners continue to be supportive of donating infrastructure (road sections) so the barricade (behind Goodwill) can be removed.The lenders are working through their process to allow for the release of the property.Unfortunately, this process is moving slower than anticipated.


Highlights of the August 2, 2010 Board Of Commissioners Meeting

The Board of Commissioners (BOC) recognized Parker Black and Kevin Creighton for their many years of service as members of the Planning Board.The BOC adopted a proclamation honoring Lula Bell Houston.Senior Planner Jason Abernethy gave an update on the findings of the tree grant inventory for trees located in the town's right-of-way east of I-77.The study highlights the structural and functional condition of the trees by priority and will help develop a tree maintenance plan.

The Board unanimously (5-0) approved the following: an amendment to the WAC Capital Project Ordinance in order to advance the funding of a retaining wall originally budgeted in Phase 2 to Phase 1 to save in mobilization costs; the appointment of Gary Knight to the vacant seat on the PARC Commission; a Resolution to adopt statewide standards and electricity purchase agreements for future connections of renewable energy sources to the Town's existing electric grid to help meet mandates passed down by Senate Bill 3; the FY2010 Tax Collector's Settlement; and a Resolution authorizing the County to collect the 2010 Cornelius taxes.
