Managers Report 03/01/10

West Catawba Avenue – NCDOT is working to complete the Mast Arms plan and anticipates sending this project out for bid in March. Construction could begin as early as June with a completion date of December 2010. The installation of the bushes and groundcover in the islands will begin within the next two weeks. You will begin to see several more non-conforming signs resolved which will look aesthetically pleasing.

Washam Potts/ Hwy 115 Intersection – This project is scheduled to begin the week of March 15th.

Westmoreland Athletic Complex – Construction has started.

Robbins Park – The design phase is approximately 75% complete. We anticipate bidding this project in June.

Hough High School – NCDOT has received our request to lower the speed limit from 45mph to 35mph.

North Rail Line – The LNTC and four Mayors will present the ULI report to the MTC at their March 24th meeting.

Knox Road Extension – Staff is reviewing the appraisal and waiting on a survey.

Fireboat – Boat delivery is still on track for July 1, 2010.

Solid Waste Services – Staff is working with Republic on a transition plan and finalizing their contract.

Catawba Avenue/Hwy 115 Crossing – The contractors have finalized a plan with CMUD and NCDOT to complete the waterline work. Construction will resume this week. It is estimated that a month of work remains, including the installation of the signals. Staff has coordinated with the utility companies to relocate all utilities underground from Railroad Street to Hickory Street along Highway 115 to improve the aesthetics of the corridor. This project is scheduled to be 100% complete by the end of April.

Hickory Street Rail Crossing – Norfolk Southern and NCDOT rail are working on the grade crossing at Hickory Street this week. The work is anticipated to take two weeks.

CMU Task Force – The final report is complete and will be presented at an upcoming meeting.

Diverging Diamond – Staff has requested NCDOT to present their findings at an upcoming pre-meeting.
